TV Ads --- The TV Industry’s Lifeline

Don’t you just get irritated that while you’re concentrating on the action-packed show or emotion-packed drama series, it suddenly pauses for a commercial break?  Well, don’t worry because you’re one of the millions of viewers who feel the same way.  But this is already part of TV, the veins that pumps blood through the TV industry, these TV ads are the lives of this business.  Without these TV ads investing on the TV industry, there wouldn’t be a TV show that can keep up with the times.

These TV ads or commercials are forms of effective advertising used by companies to promote their goods, services, ideas, products, etc., to a wider range of consumers, unlike advertising on other media.  Its airtime ranges from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on how much airtime they’ve purchased from the TV channel or network.  Dating back from the early 1940s to the recent years, more and more TV ads are being shown and advertised, presenting and selling various products, concepts, etc., or even promoting political and social campaigns.  This advertising style has been so effective and successful that recently, hundreds of commercials can be seen in a day targeting different audiences.  Even with the negative effects of TV ads, it still is a strong and integral part of the TV industry.

For these TV ads to be attractive and attention-grabber, it must have the key elements and characteristics, to ensure that consumers remember them when they go to the mall or grocery store.  In order to catch the attention of the consumers, some TV ads use catchy jingles, melodies, songs, or beats, while there are also other commercials that use creative taglines or catch phrases.  There are adverts that use animation or cartoons to appeal to the kids and children, and of course, most of the commercials use the big stars, famous celebrities, sports icons, and models.

But with the fast development of technology, like the creation of digital video recorders --- which allows recording of TV programs and skipping TV ads, it is likely that eventually, these commercials will be eliminated.  So, these companies have to utilize the available sources they have.  Gradually, new advertising style are taking on the screens, like: incorporating the TV ads in the TV show itself, or overlaying the commercial on the bottom of the TV screen, or displaying a banner or logo across the screen, or showing the ad on a portion of the TV screen during a TV program.

Truly, the TV ads have become a part of the TV life; it has evolved for the past decades, and now, consumers must await the next generation’s TV ads’ surprise for them.
